An Epic Journey

Life on board the Samba

The Samba is a converted three masted fishing boat. The owner operators and crew are locals who grew up fishing in these waters. Facilities were basic but comfortable. The crew made us feel like family.

Let me begin by describing a typical day on the Samba. I took some photos of our daily schedules. Check them out below

Each day we would rise at around 5am and either have breakfast and then set off on our first activity before returning to the boat for breakfast, or we would have breakfast first, then set off. Usually, we would snorkel in the morning because the water is clearer in the morning but not always. As our guide, Jimmy Patiño, would tell us, “it all depends on the conditions.” We got use to having plans and activities change at the last minute depending on what the wildlife opportunities presented to us.

My first boobie sighting!! She wasn’t the least bit curious about me!
